Columbia, Maryland Orthodontics

We offer multiple options to take care of crooked teeth at our office. We make sure that every patient gets their own personalized care. For each patient, we’ll have a consultation. We’ll discuss your cosmetic goals and do a thorough examination to determine which of our orthodontic options will be best for your particular case.

Traditional Braces

With severely crooked teeth or problems with your bite, traditional braces are still the best option. We offer traditional braces with clear brackets to try and give you the best aesthetic result possible. Traditional braces are often recommended for younger patients and those who can be forgetful because they’re attached to your teeth. There’s no need to switch out aligners every few weeks.

Like with conventional metal braces, clear brackets are attached to your teeth with orthodontic glue. A special light helps to secure the glue to your teeth. Once all of the brackets are attached, a metal wire is run through to connect them all, with a tiny rubber band placed on each bracket to keep the wire in place.

You’ll visit us regularly, usually once a month, to get the wire on your braces tightened so it can slowly move your teeth to the correct positioning. It can take some getting used to having brackets and wires in your mouth, and it may irritate the soft tissue. We’ll discuss remedies like wax and ways to cut down on any irritation.

Invisalign

We also offer Invisalign at our office. It’s suitable to treat mild or moderate problems and is recommended for those who are responsible and very worried about the cosmetic appearance. Invisalign uses a set of clear aligners to slowly shift your teeth. They’re custom-made for you by impressions taken of your teeth.

With Invisalign, you’re responsible for making sure you wear the aligners for at least 22 hours each day and change them every two weeks. You don’t have the dietary restrictions that can come with braces, because you can remove the aligners for meals. Wearing clear aligners also comes with the added benefit of eliminating damage from teeth grinding.

Many people choose Invisalign because the aligners are barely visible in their mouths. It’s an ideal option for adults and older teens that have the discipline to make sure they follow the treatment plan correctly.
