Originally from Providence, Rhode Island, Dr. Amy Barrer is from a true dental family – 12 of her family members are dentists! She earned a bachelor’s degree in child development from Tufts University before attending dental school at the University of Maryland, where she received her Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.). Dr. Barrer then completed her orthodontic training at Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C. During her residency, she was chosen as Chief Resident and also was a member of the Craniofacial Team at Children’s National Medical Center. She worked alongside a team of highly skilled oral and plastic surgeons who dealt with craniofacial anomalies, such as cleft lips and palates.
Dr. Barrer aims to provide only the highest quality orthodontic care. She does so by utilizing the latest materials, diagnostic tools, treatment techniques, and technologies. As a member of many local and national organizations, including the American Association of Orthodontics, American Dental Association, and the Maryland State Dental Association, she regularly participates in continuing education courses and seminars to keep her knowledge and skills up-to-date.
Away from the office, Dr. Barrer enjoys spending her free time with her husband and children. She loves doing anything outdoors and is a huge sports enthusiast.
