Meet Columbia MD Orthodontist Amy Barrer DDS

Originally from Providence, Rhode Island, Dr. Amy Barrer is from a true dental family – 12 of her family members are dentists! She earned a bachelor’s degree in child development from Tufts University before attending dental school at the University of Maryland, where she received her Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.).

Dr. Barrer then completed her orthodontic training at Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C. During her residency. She was chosen as Chief Resident. Also, she was a member of the Craniofacial Team at Children’s National Medical Center. She worked alongside a team of highly skilled oral and plastic surgeons. They dealt with craniofacial anomalies, such as cleft lips and palates.

Dr. Barrer aims to provide only the highest quality orthodontic care. She utilizes the latest materials, diagnostic tools, treatment techniques, and technologies. As a member of many local and national organizations, she regularly participates in continuing education courses and seminars to keep her knowledge and skills up-to-date. Shes a member of the American Association of Orthodontics, the American Dental Association, and the Maryland State Dental Association.

When she’s away from the office, Dr. Barrer enjoys spending her free time with her husband and children. She loves doing anything outdoors and is a huge sports enthusiast.
