By age one, most kids have a few teeth poking through. Those teeth are already at risk for cavities. And baby teeth matter. They hold space for permanent teeth. If a baby tooth gets a cavity and has to be pulled early, the adult tooth underneath might come in crooked.

Then we do a gentle knee-to-knee exam. You and Dr. Goyal sit face to face, with your child on your lap. Your child lies back with their head in Dr. Goyal’s lap. It takes about 30 seconds. That’s it.
